I live in Fort Worth, Texas, which is probably as synonymous with F-150 trucks as any place in America, so while there is a vibrant trails system in that city (along the Trinity River), most people would probably not associate “biking” with a place called “Cowtown” or oft-defined as a leader in the oil and gas space.

Anyway.

Last summer, as part of my DINK-ness, I went to Scandinavia for 10 days. I started that trip in Copenhagen for three days. If you’ve ever been to Copenhagen, you’d have observed that it’s very very very very bike-friendly to even bike-heavy, to the point that you can feel anxious and overwhelmed biking through the main parts, like a much better biker is going to clip you and drop you out or something. I was both terrified and buoyed by my experiences there.

At the same time, in 2023 and 2024, I had issues with drinking and driving, and said issues (all my fault) were concerning me, plus car insurance + car payments are another mortgage these days, so I sold a truck I had back to the dealership and went full bike after Scandinavia.

I got a Velotric Discover 2, which I believe they now have newer and flashier models, but it seemed good in June 2024. I’m also a larger person (read: periodically a fat ass) and it felt like it had the best stability for bloated fragments of masculinity.
