I am not super bullish on white-collar work. I’ve been in that game for 20 years or so, and almost every job I’ve had is utterly meaningless and a form of digital paper-pushing. Not all, no, but most. I liked some of David Graeber’s (RIP) work on “bullshit jobs.” I believe that came out when I was getting a generally-BS Masters degree in Organizational Development, which I still haven’t fully paid off (almost) and have never done much with professionally. Because I was interviewing for random HR roles at the time, the notion of “bullshit jobs” very much took hold.
