Middle Managers Are Glorified Cops
You know it. I know it. Most of us know it. Let's just say it.
Say it LOUD, and say it PROUD, once more for the people in the cheap seats: We incentivize management as a control mechanism rather than a motivational and organizational mechanism in an organization, meaning that most middle managers are glorified cops. This is the fulcrum point on which all the pants-shitting about remote and hybrid work resides. Productivity does not truly matter to people in organizations; they know the top two salespeople and the back-of-house software suites will be productive enough to keep the revenue quarters humming. What matters is control of the people. That is where the relevance of the bosses emanates from.
