Do you remember the 2017 Portland train stabbing?

Jeremy Joseph Christian is the perpetrator of a fatal stabbing on a Portland (Oregon) train in 2017. You can see lots of different body-cams and train-cams in the below video, including some of him ranting in a spit hood about blacks and Muslims:

It seems like what happened here is that two Muslim women got on the train, and the guy started shouting at them. Another guy came over to defend the girls, and Jeremy Joseph Christian began yelling at him too, in addition to a third black man who was also on the train. Then, a different guy comes from behind Jeremy Joseph Christian and starts filming him, and that pisses off Christian, so he slaps the phone out of that guy’s hand. Then a lot of pushing and shoving begins.

Eventually, Jeremy Joseph Christian pulls out a knife and kills two of the guys, while a third gets stabbed in the neck but survives. Jeremy Joseph Christian eventually got two life sentences for this.

Now, this happened three years before COVID, but it was still a flashpoint around white supremacy and white nationalism, and the fact that conservatives seem to despise Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler, which would only become more acerbic during COVID. I think I vaguely knew of this incident at the time, but I was about 1.5 months past getting divorced when this happened, so I might not have been very focused all-in.

As is often the case with violence perpetrators, who are usually broken in many different ways, Jeremy Joseph Christian had competing ideologies.
