TikTok Relationship Advice Hath COOKED The Modern Youth

What in the actual eff happened to parenting and friendship?

Everyone must have a take on things, or at least everyone looking for belonging and acceptance under every rock (guilty of this sometimes), and “everyone needs to speak all the time,” and somehow we haven’t banned TikTok even though both the right and the left have concerns about it, and for better or worse a lot of young people get advice from TikTok (a little bit from Instagram still, and almost nothing from Facebook or Twitter unless you want to be radicalized by your broken-ass clown of an uncle). And while TikTok is good at some things, including dance crazes and identifying whether you are in fact bisexual before you realize you are, it also seems lacking in many other ways.

So, much like we can raise a flag around Alex Cooper as a role model for a generation of women and whether that has some concerns we should address, we also do need to consider whether TikTok “relationship advice” — a huge subset of the platform, it seems — is good.

Obviously the first problem with this discussion is: “What does ‘good’ mean?”
