What Do You Owe To Your Drunk Friends?
Anything? Nothing? Is their behavior just "their fault?"
This here is Ashley. I will post the video of her situation in a second, but she went to a Luke Bryan concert last September and got — wait, no, probably showed up — shitfaced to it. The police working the event, down in Tampa, won’t let her in. She throws a fit, as drunk people will do. At one point, she appears to tell the cop that she caught her boyfriend “fucking a Latina” (the horror) and she’s upset, so that is why she’s drunk. She face-plants a couple of times. Eventually she is arrested, and randomly screams about how she wants to see her brother.
This video gets replicated probably 1,200 times per weekend somewhere in the United States, and I feel bad that cops have to deal with it. It is often young women, although young men have a bad track record with this stuff too. Here I will insult myself.
I have been variations of a fall-down drunk for chunks of the last two decades. I am doing better now and have been for a few years, but I still do struggle with it all, absolutely. I’ve written about this, and addiction, probably 500+ times by now if you want to pursue any of those links. Feel free.
I myself have only entered into situations with cops three (3) times in my life, and the presence of the cop usually snaps me into sobriety and I just apologize and take whatever the punishment will be. I haven’t ranted at cops, thankfully. But I do know the situation this girl is in, because I’ve also showed up to events already hammered.
