What The Hell Is The Point Of NextDoor?
To quote the George Washington SNL skit: "Nobody knows."
I myself am friends with a chunk of my neighbors (I am sure others in my area also despise me), and I’ve long thought the power of neighborly relationships could save some of our ideological cesspool. While it is true that people can move into like-minded neighborhoods (think nouveau riche hoods where every woman is a SAHM of three-four), a lot of “where you end up” neighborhood-wise, especially when rates are at 7%, is a function of a lot of things before we even get into your stance on transgender high school sports participation. As such, a neighborhood can be a good way to cut through some of the Culture Wars bullshit and realize, oh, hey, I need help from this person in a tangible way, whether he/she is MAGA or some liberal lunatic.
So, it would seem like NextDoor — supposedly “the neighborhood platform!” — would be a good way to start building that, but I’ve been on ND consistently since 2020 (when we bought a house) and a little bit before even that.
