What's The Most Popular Stuff I Cranked Out This Year On Substack, Eh?
I got here around late August.
I got here around late August / early September. Been blogging, emailing, cross-posting and the like ever since. It’s a decent platform. Here are some of my higher-performing things of half of 2023.

"Men Deserve To Be Lonely."
YouTuber “Shoe on Head” — who is pretty good, and whom I just discovered — did a video about 2–3 weeks ago re: the male loneliness epidemic, which I myself have written about ad nauseam. It was her fastest video to hit 1 million views, so she did a follow-up about some of the comments and backlash, which is here:

White-Collar Work Has Maybe 25 Good Years Left
That chart above is from some new-ish Microsoft report on the future of work — I’ve read parts of the report, but not all of it, and I can only assume that the solution at the end of the report is “Buy Office Online” — and while it doesn’t seem that bad in terms of 57% vs. 43%, you need to also remember what “work” is.

The Friendship Recession
If you’re unfamiliar with the term “friendship recession,” it’s most associated with a guy named Dan Cox, and subsequently more associated with men than women. There’s been a lot of discussion, from nuanced to hand-wringing to superficial, about the state of friendships in America and beyond over the last five or so years. The normal culprits in this di…

"No One Gives A Sh*t:" The 20-40-60 Rule
I guess we should cue this up by defining the 20–40–60 rule. We’re going to do that via here: Originally spoused by actress Shirley MacLaine — and adhered to by Silicon Valley legend, entrepreneur and investor Heidi Roizen — the rule goes something like this: “At 20, you are constantly worrying about what other people think of you. At 40 you wake up and say, ‘I’m not going to give a damn what other people think anymore.’ And at 60 you realize no one is thinking about you at all.” The most important piece of information there, Roizen says: “

Don't Let People Get Too Far Gone
This topic can get confusing for people. Let me try to sketch it out for you. I started thinking about it just recently again because I watched an EWU (Explore With Us) video about a case involving a man named Sonny Kim. He killed his sister (potentially half-sister), and the EWU Crew got interviews with his parents — who forgave him, ostensibly — and hi…

Richie Jerimovich Of "The Bear" IS America Now
I had been trying to figure out a way to write about The Bear for a while, and I just located it. If you’re unfamiliar, The Bear is a show on Hulu/FX that just released its second season. It’s set in Chicago, and in many ways feels like a love letter to Chicago. The basic plot is that Carmy, played by Jeremy Allen White of

The Decline Of Marriage And "Sex For Stability"
Lots of societal hand-wringing of late about the decline of marriage. If you zoom out a bit, the divorce rate is actually decreasing in America, although it’s increasing for older people, the so-called “Silver Splitters,” which may indicate that people cannot hold a marriage together with semi-increasing life span (statistically, when you factor in COVI…

"Body Count:" WTF Is This A Culture Topic Now?
I’ve been on TikTok approximately six times in my entire life, and each time I scrolled for maybe 30 seconds to one minute. I don’t find it that awesome. But maybe because of my lack of TikTok-y-ness, I didn’t know about the term “body count,” which feels like something you ask a Marine or a guy on death row — but no, now that terms “sexual partners.” I…
