I had a very short fertility journey with my ex, whereby we talked about it periodically and then tried it for maybe 2–3 months before other stuff popped up, including (if I recall the timing correctly) me losing a job. I’ve had a longer one with my wife now, which is maybe at about 10–12 months and may soon involve science in some capacity. More on that in future posts.

I’m 43 and I think my first friends started having kids when I was 28, and when I was 28, social media was already a thing, so I’m going on 15 years or so of posts about having kids, i.e. “the baby announcement.” Not everyone does this, no — just last night I learned someone I know had a kid, and I had no idea they were even pregnant — but in a platform economy, a lot of people do it and it’s ultimately a relevance bomb into the universe, but obviously one that is completely deserved and should be celebrated. However, there need to be a few rules of engagement here. Tough post to write because no one really gets to “make the rules” for anyone else’s baby announcement, so let’s call these “noble suggestions.”
