Work Isn't Racist, No. It Is Often Very Myopic.
(It's also becoming increasingly meaningless for many.)
We’re in this weird arc right now where virtually every discussion seems to need some tie back to race, or how some section of white people are racist and just don’t get it, and while there’s certainly value in bringing these discussions to the forefront, it also gets a little exhausting. The fact is, downtrodden white males of an economic varietal do a ton of bad shit and smoke meth like it’s a fucking gum drop, so maybe the real issue we should be discussing is class, not race, but that’s not as fashionable to holler at right now. I get it. Instagram hashtag activism helped us get here. That’s fun. I digress.
So, into this modern moment wades a bunch of articles about advancing African-Americans in the workplace. Here is one such article. Now, another tenet of the modern moment is that everything has to be in some way political, and of course with Biden probably adding a black female to the Supreme Court and the rancor about that on the right side of the aisle, now race and achievement has become political, and some are even arguing that advancing a qualified black person is a form of racism. In short, our society is functional but somewhat going over a giant cliff at the same time. Fun to be alive.
