Having seen Vance up close on the campaign trail, I can tell you he is not right now as an effective communicator as Trump, particularly to the MAGA base. However he seems to be able to bridge the gap between the blood-and-soil people and the tech bros. With money from his wealthy friends and former employers, that could set him up very nicely for a run at president.
My sense is that he is a standard Ivy League guy, or rather the intellectual bottom of the Ivy League, where he goes to where the next power reins are. He cannot fire up a base, but he is smarter than Trump on paper. I think a guy like Shapiro or Beshear could drop him. Not a woman, sadly, and not Newsom (too much baggage). He will be well-heeled monetarily, tho.
Politically he has changed so much it's hard to identify where his real core is, but it does not seem to be in the "pull yourself up by your bootstraps mountain man" philosophy of his book.
As for those who might run against Vance (and win or not), anybody who speculates at this point is going to be wrong. I went back in my time machine to 2005 and told everyone that the next president was going to be a black man from Chicago with the middle name Hussein, and they all laughed and immediately booted me back to 2025.
I don’t see how they would invoke the 25th. The cabinet is literally a bunch of unqualified sycophantic kleptocrats, and i doubt the Democrats get enough seats in 26 to create a body sympathetic to declaring him incapacitated. Best bet is that the Mayor McCheese finally does the job. Vance knows what he is doing. He knows Trump is a bastard and said it himself. The question is if he has been corrupted, or if he’s playing possum. My guess is the later, but I don’t think anyone has the same pull that Trump does and don’t expect him to last long.

Good point here.

I never dreamed there might come a time when we would look back on a Trump presidency as the “good old days.”
